The 100 Mile Ideas Diet is a series of conversation cafés organized by the Centre for Innovative and Entrepreneurial Leadership (CIEL). The series’ purpose is to link people with the richness of expertise that resides locally. The series is about networking, sparking inspiration, and making innovative ideas accessible. The series takes place from March until July of 2009 at Oso Negro in Nelson, BC. The series is sponsored by the Columbia Basin Trust, the Nelson and District Credit Union, Kootenay Co-op Radio, the Nelson Daily News, Oso Negro, Radiant Audio and Otter Books.

Michelle Mungall and George Penfold give their thoughts on issues and strategies concerning affordable housing, particularly as they relate to public policy and research.
Michelle Mungall was elected as MLA for the Nelson/Creston riding in 2009, and has experience in the field as the Community Coordinator for the Nelson Committee on Homelessness. George Penfold is Regional Innovation Chair in Rural Economic Development at Selkirk College in Castlegar B.C. and Adjunct Professor at the School of Business and Economics at Thompson Rivers University. His experience lies in rural economic development and policy/legislation research and development.

The first in the localization series, this show features a presentation by Jon Steinman (Deconstructing Dinner) about a Community Food Matters gathering that took place in Nelson, British Columbia. It also features an interview with Paula Kiss, one of the speakers for the localization event and the founder/owner of the Building Tree, Nelson's green building hub.
