Feminist Music Then and Now - Feminist Music - March 5 2010
IWD Show -
This International Women's Day show included, of course, Holly Near to start and Judy Collin's version of "Bread and Roses" to end the show with a flourish. In between, I played BC singer/songwriters including Miss Quincy singing "Bootleg Mama"; Wells BC singer/songwriter Yael Wand with "Come Spring"; and Vancouver's Euphoniously Feminist Non-Performing Quintet's "Diversity" ; from away, Anne Louise Genest sang "Paradise Road", Judy Small sang "Music in the Movement"; Iris DeMent sang "Wasteland of the Free"; and Mother sand "Ancient Mother". I played 2 Connie Kaldor songs, "God Made Mamas to Cry" and "Up Above the Dream Cafe"; and my newest musical heart throb, Cheryl Wheeler, sang "Northern Girl".
I also plugged all the IWD events that went on during the week-end, which raised dollars and our spirits for the struggles still to come.
