Feminist Music Then and Now - Feminist Music - Feb 5 2010
Played on today's Bonnie's Birthday show: Ferron, Farmer's Daughters, Joan Osborne, Emma Cook, Ashlea Jonesmith, Judy Small, and Holly Near. Yes, I'm 64 and counting. There's room on the show for more new (and new to me) women singer/songwriters, like Emma Cook and Ashlea Jonesmith, Kimya Dawson and Jane Sapp. I'm always open to suggestions for the Now part of the show, and I'm finding that even the Then part can have openings for me to discover. My feminist music comes from the 1970s, when there was lots of new, political music being produced by women at Redwood Records and Olivia Records. But there were women singing about their lives before that, and there are women singing about their lives now, and it's been a real treat to hear them. Hope you think so too.

En hommage à la France, voici la première partie de deux sur ce pays: sa musique, et évidemment sa langue.
