Fane of the Cosmos - FANE INTERVIEWS SUSAN BOYD_WENNIFER CURRY INTL WOMANS DAY SHOW MAR 9, 2008
This week we celebrate the women in our community a day after International Women's Day. We have interviews (2005) with Susan Boyd. Susan Boyd teaches courses on drug law and policy, theory and research methodology. Her research interests include drug law and policy, maternal-state conflicts, film and print media representations, women in conflict with the law and research methodology. She is a community activist who works with harm reduction and anti-drug war groups. We discuss her book "From Witches to Crack Moms: Women, Drug Law and Policy." We also interview Wennifer Curry a survivor of hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) a debilitating form of morning sickness that can kill the mother. Cannabis literally saved her life, and her daughters, by offering relief from the agonizing spasms of vomiting. We also cover the Law Enforcement aspects of the Security and Prosperity Partnership and how they relate to the war on drugs. Canada is giving its sovereignty at an alarming rate, if you take into account the recent military agreement signed with the United States that effectively gives the American military the right to operate within Canadian borders for civilian "emergencies". Combine this military agreement with the Law Enforcement agreements under the S.P.P. and it is virtual takeover of all aspects of Canadian security. Law Enforcement agents from the u.S. will be able to conduct investigations in Canada with impunity. Danger! Sweet tunes from Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone, Cyndi Lauper, Sinead O'Connor and Ella Fitzgerald. KCR also gets a Fane spanking for accepting the new Conservative Government Drug Strategy Radio Ads that has two young girls talking about the various names for different drugs...offering nothing really to their agenda.

World Report - International Women’s Day meditation: Fundamentalism, secularism, church and state

Fane of the Cosmos - FANE CONSERVATIVE CRIME BILL C-2/ SMELL OF MARIJUANA/MANDATORY MIN
On this weeks show we discuss the passage of Bill C-2 through the Canadian Senate and then into law. The passage of a bill by coercion on part of the Conservative Party, threatening an election over the bill, is a serious blow to democracy in Canada. The fact that the Liberals, with a majority in Senate, acquiesced to the Conservatives demands is a further indicator of the dire political situation. We also discuss the Supreme court ruling dealing with mandatory Minimums. Without one dissenting vote the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the use of mandatory minimums in Canadian Law and sets a scary precedent for the future of Bill C-26 which is before committee. Listeners may remember that Bill C-26 is the Conservative Party's new get-tough-on-crime bill that strongly mirrors American drug law. Mandatory minimums have been in effect in the united states for 2 decades and have been found to not only decrease recidivism but also costs the justice system heavily. A new court case out of Saskatchewan rules that the smell of "burned" cannabis is not enough probable cause to initiate an arrest or search of a person. This is a sensible ruling that has long needed to be clarified in Canadian Law. We also look into the recent bust of the Vancouver Herb School run by uberactivist David Malmo-Levine. The Vancouver Herb School is an educational/historical museum located in East Hastings that charts the use of plants in modern culture with exhibits, educational material, vintage drug paraphernalia and local art. The bust saw the arrest of David and 5 employees and face a number of charges under the CDSA. The never ending discrimination against harmless pot smokers and educators. Bless you David and we hope to interview you soon on the show. We also play some sweet tunes by the Doors, Freestylers, Jeff Healey (RIP) and cuts from the album "Have a marijuana", totally hilarious.
