The History Hour
Three spiritual Teachers, the Founders of Religions: Buddha, Christ, Prophet
The Buddha, The Christ, and The Prophet -- Gautama, Jesus, Mohammed -- are the focus of Jeanes' attention this episode; parallels are traced. He also has words about personality, character, and ego, as related to human mind and consciousness, and the immortality of something higher than ego. Did personality or ego explain the effects of these three teachers? Why is religion so much reviled now, by modern Western people? Is a religion the result that the founders actually aimed for? Institutional ("organized") religion and ruling classes are a package, and that political issue of power is what the critics should investigate, says Jeanes, not attack spiritual teachings as the cause of religious excess in history.
