Arts Arisin'
Arts Arisin - Richard Carver Memorial Show
Richard Carver 1937-2009
Richard lived in Nelson from 2001 until his death on June 28, 2009. This last chapter of his life seemed in many ways his happiest. He was a committed to Nelson's arts and culture scene from the moment he arrived and at the time of his death he served on a number of different boards, donated to a wide variety of organisations, and was a huge supporter of local artists and artisans. Much of his indefatigable commitment to local arts and culture came from his own passion for painting and writing, which he first discovered by taking a painting class with his future mentor, John Cooper. He never stopped exploring his emotions and experience through painting and poetry and exampled to his friends and family the importance and accessibility of creative expression.
Richard wanted to bring more exposure to the local arts scene, and this program - Arts Arisin - was his way of doing this. Over the years he co-hosted the show with: Fiona Brown, Bessie Wapp, and Josh Wapp.
This rememberance program was originally broadcast on July 20, 2009. It was produced and hosted by Bill Metcalfe, with contributions from Josh Wapp, Bessie Wapp, Fiona Brown, Anne Degrace, Tim Shay, Deb Kozak, John Cooper, Bryna Idler, Kelly Shpeley and a number of friends who called into the studio.
